Quick answer

To make same-day business funding possible, have these ready before you apply: six to twelve months of business bank statements (or online banking access to link them), photo ID for every director, your ABN and ACN, your latest BAS or ATO portal statement, a list of existing business debts, a quote or invoice for the purpose, and, for property-backed loans, the property details and current loan statement. Make sure everyone who must sign is available that day.

Key points

  • Bank statements are the single most important document.
  • Every director and property owner must be ready to sign.
  • Disclose ATO debts and other loans up front.
  • A quote or invoice makes the purpose clear.

Same-day business funding is possible, but it’s rarely luck. The files that fund on the day are the ones where everything the lender needs arrives in the first hour or two, and every person who needs to sign is ready. This guide is a checklist you can work through before you apply, ideally the evening before, so that when you enquire the next morning nothing holds you up.

It applies whether you’re after a smaller unsecured loan, where same-day funding is possible for smaller amounts, or a property-backed loan, where $20k to $250k is possible same day once the file is complete.

The core checklist

Item Why it matters Tip
Business bank statements (6 to 12 months) Shows income, existing repayments and account conduct Be ready to link them online during the first call
Photo ID for every director Identity checks for each borrower and guarantor Driver’s licence or passport, in date
ABN and ACN Confirms the business and its age Check your ABN details are current
Latest BAS or ATO portal statement Shows turnover and tax position Download the portal statement before you enquire
List of existing business debts Lenders will find them anyway Include lender, balance and repayment
Quote or invoice for the purpose Makes the use of funds clear Ask the supplier to include their ABN
A clear deadline Lets the lender prioritise Say why the date can’t move

For property-backed loans, add these

  • Property address and type, such as house, unit, shop, warehouse or land.
  • Estimated value, with a recent appraisal if you have one.
  • Current loan statement for any existing mortgage.
  • Names of everyone on the title, and their availability to sign.
  • Ownership structure: personal names, a company or a trust (and the trust deed if so).
  • Rates notice, which confirms ownership details quickly.

If you’re refinancing an existing loan, ask that lender for a payout figure the same day you enquire. It’s often the slowest step.

The people checklist

Documents are only half of it. The other half is people. Before you apply, check:

  1. Every director can e-sign on the day and has photo ID ready.
  2. Everyone on any property title knows about the loan and is willing to sign.
  3. Your accountant is reachable if a letter or quick confirmation is needed.
  4. Your solicitor or conveyancer, if a property purchase or settlement is involved, knows what’s happening.
  5. The supplier or other party is ready to receive funds and provide an invoice.

A co-director on a plane or a family member who hasn’t been told about the loan can turn a same-day loan into a week-long one.

Clean up the bank statements

Lenders read your bank statements closely, especially for unsecured loans. In the weeks before you apply, if you can:

  • Avoid dishonoured payments. Keep a buffer above scheduled debits.
  • Keep business and personal spending separate.
  • Bank all business income into the business account.
  • Avoid new short-term loans, which add repayments the lender has to account for.

If something in the statements needs explaining, such as a one-off large deposit, a returned payment or a transfer to a related business, write a one-line explanation in advance.

Be upfront about problems

The fastest files are honest files. If there’s an ATO debt, a past default, a court judgement or another short-term loan, put it on the form with a short explanation. A lender who finds a problem you didn’t mention will stop to investigate and may wonder what else is missing. A lender who’s told up front can assess it and keep moving.

For ATO debts, a payment plan or evidence of recent lodgements helps a lot. The ATO’s online services let you download a statement of account quickly.

Know your numbers

Before you enquire, jot down:

  • Annual turnover, and roughly what the last three months looked like.
  • How long the business has traded.
  • The exact amount you need and what it covers.
  • When you need it, and what happens if it’s late.
  • How the loan will be repaid: from trading, a contract payment, a sale or a refinance.

Having these ready means the first call is quick and the plan is right first time.

An illustrative example

A Gold Coast marine mechanic learns on a Thursday afternoon that a boat dealer will sell him a workshop full of tools, stock and a service vehicle for $70,000 if he can pay by Monday. That evening he downloads his ATO portal statement, finds his latest BAS, asks the dealer for a tax invoice and texts his wife, a co-director, to make sure she’s free on Friday morning. He enquires at 8am Friday, links his bank statements on the first call, and both directors e-sign by 11am. The unsecured loan is funded that afternoon and the dealer is paid before the weekend.

What can’t be rushed

Some things genuinely take time, and it’s better to know up front:

  • Physical valuations of unusual, rural or specialised property.
  • Consents from an existing first mortgagee for a second mortgage.
  • Trust and company documents if they’re not to hand.
  • Overseas signers who can’t complete electronic identity checks.

If any of these apply, say so on the first call so the timeline is realistic and any parts that can run in parallel get started straight away.

Use the speed finder first

Our funding speed finder asks a few quick questions about the amount, deadline, security and paperwork, and tells you which route is realistic and what to have ready. It takes about a minute and nothing is sent anywhere.

A ten-minute evening routine

If you think you’ll need funding soon, spend ten minutes the night before. Log in to your business bank and check you can see recent statements. Download the ATO portal statement and save your latest BAS. Photograph each director’s licence. Write down the amount, the purpose and the deadline in one line. Send a quick message to anyone who’ll need to sign. That small routine is often the difference between funding tomorrow and funding next week.

If you’re missing something

Don’t wait to have everything perfect before you enquire. If one item is missing, say what it is and when you’ll have it. A real person can often start the parts that don’t depend on it, so the gap doesn’t hold up the rest of the file.

Ready to go?

When your checklist is done, start your enquiry. There’s no credit check to ask, your details aren’t distributed around a set of lenders, and a real person calls you to get the right steps moving. Please fill in the form as accurately as you can: it’s the single biggest thing that decides whether same-day funding is possible for you.

Frequently asked questions

What's the one document that matters most?

Business bank statements. For unsecured loans especially, they're the main evidence of how the business trades. Being able to link them electronically on the first call saves the most time.

Do I need an accountant to get funded quickly?

Not for most smaller loans. For larger loans, low doc applications or complex structures, a short accountant's letter can help and is worth asking for early.

What if my BAS is behind?

Say so. Lodging the outstanding BAS, even if you can't pay it all, helps. Property-backed lenders can often still move quickly when books are behind.

Can I apply before I have a supplier invoice?

Yes, but a quote or invoice speeds things up because it shows exactly what the money is for and lets funds be paid straight to the supplier.

Does every director have to sign?

Usually yes, for guarantees. For property-backed loans, everyone on the title signs too. Check availability on day one.
